Earlier this week, we saw the Man City players enjoy their fancy dress Christmas party; Mario Balotelli came as a cowboy while Micah Richards donned a soldiers costume.

Well today saw cowboy vs soldier as Balotelli and Richards had to be separated in a training ground bust up.

The two players clashed towards the end of a practice match preparing for Sunday’s game against Arsenal. Witnesses reported that words were exchanged before the two players squared up.

Richards, in particular, seemed aggrieved by what had been said and the defender had to be restrained by other players as he sought to prolong the argument.

The incident has been described as “minor” behind the scenes at City, where it has been stressed that it was quickly forgotten once the players had returned to the dressing room. Richards and Balotelli get on well and are understood to have shaken hands.

It is rumoured Chelsea will listen to offers for £50million flop Fernando Torres in next month’s transfer window.

The £150,000-a-week striker has scored just three Barclays Premier League goals since his move to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool on January 31.

Chelsea considered sending him on loan to rebuild his shattered confidence, but it seems they are now prepared to sell.

The club will have to take a massive financial hit on the most expensive player in British football history, but they have almost exhausted their other options.

Instead they will listen to any club prepared to offer around £20m and match his huge salary demands next month

The Japanese defender was helped by some terrible goalkeeping but it is still a worthy effort.

D-Day for Chelsea in Stamford Bridge Ownership Fight

Chelsea will learn today whether they have succeeded in buying back the freehold of Stamford Bridge from the Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO) in what is being seen as the first step towards a move to a new 60,000-seater stadium.

Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO) were formed in 1993 and purchased the freehold of the stadium in 1997 for roughly £10 million to prevent Stamford Bridge from being snapped up by property developers.

Chelsea argue it is necessary for them to have the freehold of the stadium so that they are in a position to enter serious negotiations for potential new sites in the vicinity of Stamford Bridge and have the funds to build. Extending Stamford Bridge is not currently considered to be either feasible or cost effective.

***UPDATE***

Chelsea have lost a vote to buy back their own stadium from a group owned by their fans.

Only 61.5% of shareholders in Chelsea Pitch Owners voted in favour of selling the freehold for the club’s Stamford Bridge stadium back to the club.

Approval of 75% of the shareholders was needed to pass the proposal.
